Choice of Snacks for Rakhi
No Indian celebration is complete without food, and Rakhi is no exception. If your brother is a big foodie and love to gorge on yummy snacks, then here we have two Raksha Bandhan traditional food recipes for you to try – a finger-licking combo of Rasgulla and indian snack mix. The sweetness of the rasgulla and the tangy spicy flavour of the snack mix (also commonly called mixture) is an ideal combo just like the bond between you and your brother.
Ingredients for Rasgulla
- Milk – 1 liter
- Lemon juice – 1 tablespoon
- Sugar – 4 cups
- Muslin cloth
Method
Bring the milk to boil. Once it starts rolling, add the lemon juice and keep stirring. Once the milk curdles, let it sit for some time to cool. Take a muslin cloth and strain the water. Ensure the water is completely strained out. Knead the chhena well and make small round balls. Keep it aside.
Take a heavy bottom vessel and fill it half with water. Once the water starts boiling, add sugar and stir until the sugar dissolves. Bring the sugar syrup to boil. Now slowly add the chhena balls in the sugar syrup. Let it boil for a minute and then turn off the heat. Your spongy lip-smacking rasgulla is ready.
Ingredients for Indian Snack Mix
- Ajwain – 1 teaspoon
- Gram flour (besan) – 1 cup
- Rice flour – 1 cup
- Hing – 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder – 1 teaspoon
- Salt – 1 teaspoon
- Ghee – 1 tablespoon
- Peanuts and cashew – 1 cup
- Roasted chana dal – 1 cup
- Mesmara groundnut oil – 1 cup
Method
Take a pan and heat it. Add ajwain and dry roast. Then add the other dry ingredients one by one (except the nuts) and dry roast. Let it cool and grind to make a powder. Take some oil in a pan and shallow fry the nuts. Make a dough by adding hot water in the powder and knead well. Add ghee and knead again. Cut it into thin strips. Keep it aside. Take a pan, pour oil and let it heat well. Now deep fry the dough strips until it turns golden. Drain the excess oil on tissue paper. Now add the fried nuts in the mixture and give a quick toss.

Pro tip: You may add a pinch of chilli powder in the dough if you want to make it a bit spicy.
