Rose hip seed oil is a pressed seed oil, extracted from the seeds of the wild rose bush (Rosa moschata or Rosa rubiginosa) in the southern Andes. Rosehip seed oil can also be extracted from Rosa canina, which grows in many regions of the world including South Africa and Europe.

The oil contains provitamin A (mostly beta-Carotene). It has been wrongly said to contain retinol (vitamin A) which is a vitamin solely made by animals from provitamin A. It does however contain levels.

It is commonly used in skin care products. Although there is anecdotal evidence which suggests rose hip seed oil assists in the healing of scar tissue, there is little in the way of reputable scientific evidence.

Rosehip seed oil has been used by the people of Chile for hundreds of years as a cosmetic treatment for the skin, but it has only recently gained visibility in other parts of the world. A 1983 study performed at the University of Santiago, which involved 180 participants with moderate to severe skin damage from the sun, age, radiation, or dermatitis, showed that “rosehip seed oil regenerated the skin, reduced scars and wrinkles, prevented the advancement of wrinkles and aging, and helped skin to regain its natural color and tone

Exfoliate Skin and Treats Acne

Scalp Elixir for Fine, Thinning Hair: Jojoba & Rosehip Oil Blend

To make this hair fortifying blend you will need the following ingredients:


  • 2 teaspoon jojoba oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon rosehip oil
  • 1 teaspoon castor oil (optional, use for extra boost)
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil (optional, helps with dandruff and dry hair)
  • 4 drops lavender essential oil
  • 4 drops ylang ylang essential oil
  • 3 drops rosemary essential oil
  • Mix the oils in a bowl.

How to use: Apply the mixture a little at a time to different parts of your scalp, parting your hair as needed. Massage lightly using the pads of your fingers for about 3 to 4 minutes. Rosehip Oil in Your Hair

  • Rosehip oil in your hair works best when it is massaged into your hair and scalp.
