Unconventional Gingerbread Recipes
Almost all of you have read or sung the below popular rhyme in your childhood, isn’t it? That’s because gingerbread is to Christmas as Gujia is to Holi. If you’re celebrating Christmas, then at least few gingerbread recipes dessert have to be there on your Christmas menu.

Typically, the main ingredients for gingerbread are nutmeg, cinnamon, and of course ginger. With Christmas just around the corner, it’s time to make some yummy gingerbread desserts. And why stick to the gingerbread man only when you can get creative with these three unusual gingerbread recipes?
Recipe #1 Gingerbread polar bears
Ingredients
- Gingerbread cake and cookie mix – 1 box
- All-purpose flour – ½ cup
- Black coffee – 1 cup
- Mesmara extra virgin olive oil – 1 tablespoon
Ingredients for the glaze
- Eggnog – ¼ cup
- Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon
- Powdered sugar – 1 cup
Method
Mix all the ingredients (except the ingredients for the glaze) and make a smooth dough. Divide the dough into two halves and give them the shape of a disk. Cover the dough portions with stretch wrap and refrigerate in the fridge for at least half an hour.
Meanwhile preheat your oven. Take out the dough portions and cut out the shape of polar bears. (you can get creative and make any shapes you want). Transfer the shaped to your baking pan lined with a baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until done. Take them out and put them on your wire rack. Meanwhile, mix the ingredients for the glaze. Glaze the cookies. Let it rest for at least four hours or until the glaze is firm. Decorate the shapes with sprinkles or gems. Your gingerbread polar bear cookies are ready!
Recipe #2 Eggless gingerbread cookies
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour – 1 cup
- Soft butter – ½ cup
- Baking powder – ½ teaspoon
- Baking soda – ½ teaspoon
- Brown sugar (powdered) – 1 cup
- Dried ginger – ¼ cup
- Cinnamon, nutmeg, clove – ¼ teaspoon each
Method
Another most liked gingerbread recipes is the eggless gingerbread cookies. Combine the butter and sugar and whisk well. Add all the dry ingredients to this and mix well to form the dough. Do not add any water. Cover the dough and refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes. Take it out and cut it into your desired shapes. Preheat your oven at 180 degrees Celsius for 10 minutes and then bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are firm. Cool on a wire rack. Decorate your cookies with icing sugar and serve immediately or store in an airtight container for later use.

Ingredients
- All-purpose flour – 1 cup
- Dry ginger – 1 tablespoon
- Baking soda – 1 teaspoon
- Cinnamon powder – ¼ teaspoon
- Nutmeg powder – ¼ teaspoon
- Unsalted soft butter – 1 cup
- Water – ½ cup
- Powdered sugar – 1 cup
Method
Mix all the dry ingredients and keep aside. Take a mixing bowl and beat the butter and sugar together. Gently add the dry ingredients and keep mixing well. Preheat your oven. Take a baking dish and grease it lightly. Pour the batter and spread it evenly. Bake it for 45 minutes or until the gingerbread starts cracking from the top. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
