Children’s Day Treats – Homemade Delights

Children’s Day is here, so let’s plan something big and special for your kid to make this day fun! November 14th is Chacha Nehru’s birthday, and the day is celebrated as Children’s Day for his love for the children. There is something very endearing about this day and every child look forward to this special day. There are many ways you can spend the day – take your child to some fun events happening in your city, to a local park, or just spend time together playing outdoors, watching a movie or reading a book. And just like any celebration, this day is also not complete without special Children’s Day Treats!

Make this children’s day special by cooking home-made delights for your children instead of indulging in junkies. Even better! Tag your child along in the cooking spree and together you can bake some sweet delicacies or jazz up some chaat and eat together as a family. Trust us, the fun is enormous! Here are some ideas for you to ponder over…

Treat #1: Bake a cake

Baking is fun! And baking with your kiddos is double the fun and safe too to introduce your child in cooking. Let your child help you with stirring and assembling a simple chocolate cake. Here’s the recipe for you.

Ingredients for homemade cake

  • All-purpose flour – 1 cup
  • Mesmara Extra virgin olive oil – 1 tablespoon
  • Eggs – 2 (optional)
  • Unsalted butter – 2 cubes
  • Cocoa powder – 1 tablespoon
  • Powdered Sugar – 1 -1/2 cup
  • Baking soda – 1 pinch
  • Baking powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – 1 pinch

Method of preparation for cake at home

Take a large bowl and sieve through all the dry ingredients. Mix well and keep aside. Take another bowl and whip the butter and sugar well. Gently fold in the eggs while whisking. Add in the oil. Keep stirring until everything mixes well. Now slowly fold it in the dry ingredients and keep stirring and mixing so that no lumps are there. Keep the batter aside.

In a preheated oven bake your cake for 20 minutes at 170-degree Celsius. Try the fork test to ensure the cake is baked well. Take it out and leave it on a wire rack. Let your child add toppings of their choice. Whipped cream, Gems, sprinkles, chocolate chips, go creative as much as you want! Your chocolate cake is ready!

Treat #2: Make tangy chaat

Sweet and tangy chaat is loved by all! Try this super easy chana chaat recipe at home that your kid will love to eat and assist you in making.

Ingredients for homemade chaat

  • Soaked and boiled kabuli chana – 1-1/2 cups
  • Paneer, cut into cubes – ½ cup
  • Cucumber, onion and tomato (all chopped finely) – 1 cup
  • Boiled potatoes, peeled and diced – 1 cup
  • Chaat Masala – 1 tablespoon
  • Finely chopped dhania – 1 tablespoon
  • Salt – as per taste
  • Sev – to sprinkle over
  • Sweet tamarind juice – 1 tablespoon

Method of preparation for chaat at home

You can do the cut, peel and boil and keep all the ingredients in separate bowls. Now take a large mixing bowl and let your child do the rest of the mixing, of course under your supervision. And a yum and delicious chaat is ready to enjoy together!
