Carrier oils are oils prepared from extracts of vegetables or seeds and are used to moisturize your skin. They are called carrier oils as they are used to dilute the stronger essential oils. These are naturally occurring oils and mix well with the nutrients and minerals from the essential oils and help your skin absorb them uniformly. The various combinations of carrier oils and essential oils are extremely therapeutic for the skin.  

Carrier oils protect the skin’s outermost layer by forming a lipid barrier and this reduces the transpiration process. Keeping this layer complemented with a regular supply of natural carrier oils sustains the youthfulness of your skin.

#1. Coconut Oil

The humble coconut oil is the most commonly available oil in Indian households. This is one of the best carrier oils and works in every season and for many skin types.  This oil has medicinal properties and is antiseptic, antibacterial and antifungal too. Coconut oil deeply moisturizes the skin and is very effective in retaining it especially during the winters.  

The oil is rich in Vitamin E and antioxidants which make is also good to keep the skin smooth and glowing.

#2. Almond Oil

Almond oil is cold-pressed from raw almonds. The oil has a faint but sweet smell of the almonds and is a light textured oil that allows it to be applied easily on the skin. 

The oil is perfect to lock in the hydration of the skin much like the coconut oil. It reduces the irritability of the skin and hence is a good option to manage skin ailments. It also creates a natural barrier against UV related skin degeneration. 

Anyone having nut related allergies should not use this oil.

#3. Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is yet another great carrier oil. The skin absorbs the oil quickly and stays moisturized. It is good for all skin types and especially for ones who have extremely oily skin. Jojoba oil removes the heavy sebum secretion by dissolving it and keeps the skin feeling lighter. 

The oil has Vitamin E and continuously repairs the skin. It also restores the skin from UV exposure damage.

#4. Rosehip Seed Oil

This is a great oil to manage aging-related skin issues. It works well to manage dry skin. It nourishes the skin moisture. The oil helps in the regeneration of new skin cells and increases skin elasticity. This helps in firming up the skin and removing age lines. It is full off essential fatty acids which soften the skin and make the texture smooth.  

Rosehip Seed oil has a calming effect on the skin. Its anti-inflammatory properties help reduce redness and pain due to acne or skin ailments.  

#5. Argan Oil

It is cold-pressed from the Argan tree nuts. It has it’s origin in Morocco. Argan oil is extremely rich in Vitamin E and has a high content of fatty acids. The oil is great for all skin types of both men and women alike. Argan oil helps manage the sebum secretion which can effectively reduce outbreaks of acne. 

It helps reduce age lines and wrinkles by rejuvenating the skin’s lipid layer and tightening the skin. It is not a thick oil and evenly spreads and quickly absorbs into the skin.

Carrier oils in themselves are self-sufficient in nourishing the skin. They should be used regularly across the seasons to improve the texture and overall health of the skin. Best to use organic and pure natural oils for the best results.
